SOUL FOLKS: A night presenting artists who like to play on the edges of folk and R&B. We promise soulful, poignant and thought-provoking lyrics and jazzy harmonies that you can dance and groove along to.
For Jelly Cleaver, music and songwriting are a means to express her philosophy and observations of the world. She explores social, political and philosophical themes in her lyrics, with a genre-fluid approach to music.
«The music is stirring and spiritual, and a genuine pleasure to listen to… It reminds me a lot of early Laura Marling in that it’s like being taken on a trip that shows the everyday to you afresh, revealing the hidden passions we usually let our gaze skip over.»
Sans Soucis Experience
Knitting a unique tapestry from her African ancestry and European upbringing, Sans Soucis is a singer-songwriter with a cotton voice and soulful compositions that tell stories of self-discovery and healing. She usually performs with a seven-piece band, however, on this occasion her stories will be told and sung in an intimate guitar and voice setting.
«A slice of pure acoustic soul. Over nothing more than a gently strummed guitar, Sans Soucis’ gorgeous vocals glide effortlessly, as she delivers a message of self-love and pride.»
Mixing her folk influences with a love of RnB and electronic sound, Kitty sets her poignant songwriting and distinct emotive performance to a vibrant live band, filled with both soulful melancholy and groove. Her ear for an irresistible pop hook allows her to build something joyful, hopeful and undeniably catchy.
«Around the autobiographical grit of life she builds melodic pearls. Her silvery vocals twist their way into your subconscious so that you find her words and tunes continue to haunt you.”
