Working with the Body: a discussion on Buddhist, Taoist & Western approaches. Speaker Master Chris Ray Chappell
This LIVE talk will focus on the concept that the body itself can be a modality of release from an unconsciously embodied sense of restriction.
The body is constantly receiving and transmitting, let’s call them forces ranging from physical knocks to the impacts of thoughts. The shock and fear of day to day living produce a type of defence. What Wilhelm Reich called emotional character armouring.

The question arises, can one really meditate out of this or go beyond as if this armouring will spontaneously dissolve?
A not so obvious obstacle for a person is the internalized relationship and story of ourselves which of course is predicated by having a body. The body needs to be maintained and attended to and how we attend to it or not will impact the brain and nervous system and our experience in the world. This personalized story about the body, this life, this shifting ego of flesh has a somatic reality, albeit temporary.
The lecture will discuss and compare the eastern and western approaches citing Buddhist, Taoist and Western practices with the body.
