The British Academy of Taxidermy
Islington Arts Factory 2 Parkhurst Road, N7OSF London, United Kingdom
The Last Tuesday Society is responsible for the growing revival of this Victorian whimisical artistic craze. Since first introducing this class from New York in 2009 we have taught literally 100s of novices how to stuff their first mouse, many have gone on to become talented & even professional taxidermists in their own right. This is an ideal introduction to the craft in which you will be taught all the basic skills of taxidermy — from skinning & preparing to mounting and preserving. Our ancestors, most famously Walter Potter — The Man Who Married Kittens created elaborate and often charming tableau of all sorts of animals in human like poise. Various props (& animals) provided, though please bring your own. The classes are taught by expert taxidermist Tonja Grung, if you book Mouse/Rat please email us a week before if you would rather stuff a mouse.
We have taught literally thousands of budding taxidermists – many of whom have gone on to become professional taxidermists – many even teaching their own classes. Taxidermy is a craft and an art, and like many crafts the basics themselves are fairly easy to grasp, and in our lessons we aim to introduce you to the basic concepts and techniques involved, you may go on, take more classes, practice at home and become a highly skilled practitioner or you may simply take what you stuffed home and enjoy it, and also have a greater understanding of the craft behind taxidermy whenever you see it.
The classes are taught by master taxidermist Tonja Grung –a member of The Guild of Taxidermists who has many years of experience both in the craft of taxidermy and teaching.
